Before you vote

Check your voter registration.

Start with the Texas lookup. Use the Denton County site if you need local help or the state result does not make sense.

The Texas lookup lets you search with your name, driver license number, or voter number.

About 1.2 million Texans were on the voter suspense list in August 2026. Suspense usually means the county is not sure your address is current. You are still registered, but fixing it before you vote can save time at the polls.

What your result means

Look for one of these words.

Active

Your registration is current.

Check that your name and home address are right. Your address decides which races appear on your ballot.

Suspense

The county needs you to confirm your address.

You are still registered. If you vote before fixing the record, you may need to fill out a Statement of Residence at the polls.

Cancelled or not found

Contact the county now.

The record may need a correction or a new application. Ask Denton County Elections what happened and what you must submit.

If your record needs attention

Fix it before Election Day.

  1. Confirm the address on your record. If you still live in Denton County, update a wrong address or name through the official Texas service.
  2. If you moved to another county, register there. If you miss the deadline, ask the new county about a limited ballot during early voting. A limited ballot is not available on Election Day.
  3. Call if the result does not make sense.Denton County Elections can check the record and tell you which form is needed.

Why people land on the suspense list

It often happens after a voter card, election letter, or jury summons is returned as undeliverable. The county may also receive information that the voter moved. A person on suspense remains registered. If the voter does not vote or confirm the address through two federal election cycles, about four years, the registration can later be cancelled.
